While working my Atlas block around Rock Creek Park today I turned up many
of the usual suspects but I wanted to mention a few of the highlights.

Rock Creek Maint. Yard

Twice during different times in the morning watched a mob of crows chase a
Sharp Shinned Hawk.

I got the rare pleasure of watching a pair of Coopers Hawks lock talons and
do a quick spiral. I probably would have seen more, but the trees blocked
my view as they moved away.

Goldfinches male and female and young
One male and two female Eastern Towhee

Intersection of Ross Dr., Beach Road and Military

I explored the area around the rock bridge over the creek. Within 5 min. I
had a
Blue Gray Gnatcatcher
Northern Waterthrush (significant yellowish underparts)
Chipping Sparrow
Pair of Eastern Phoebe building a nest under the bridge (it is on a clamp
holding a large pipe under the bridge -- you can see it best from North of
the bridge.

Melvin Hazen Park

Female Wood Duck
A pair of male Northern Flickers fighting over territory -- I think.
They were on a log facing each other with their beaks in the air and
bobbing heads before they attaked each other. When I see stuff like that
it makes me think of Marty Stouffer's Wild America show.
