Ray kept finding good birds on Saturday and then calling me to tell me about them. I made 3 separate trips to Rocky Gap State Park before the day was over and got myself 2 new County Birds. I started at Dan's Mountain State Park (within one of my atlas blocks) in the morning. I had a BLUE-HEADED VIREO, a BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER and some Kinglets (of both varieties). A female YB SAPSUCKER was calling and flying from tree to tree. I also heard a BARRED OWL sound off while I was there. My first trip to Rocky Gap was uneventful but after talking to Ray, I went back for a more thorough inspection to find a FORSTER'S TERN that he told me he had seen. I also found 2 BONAPARTE'S GULLS swimming around. Ray told me later that he had 6 CASPIAN TERNS at the beach at Rocky Gap so I came back for a third time and scored on the terns (I actually had 7 Caspians, 2 Forsters and both Bonies all together on the beach this time). Additionally there were 8 COMMON LOONS on the lake. Sunday I went to Pinto Marsh and had COMMON SNIPE (some of which were quietly winnowing), AMERICAN WOODCOCK peenting, and a calling VIRGINIA RAIL. All of these were heard among the very loud chorus frogs, am. toads, a single bullfrog and many peeeeepers (you must use extra e's when there are that many frogs).
