Thursday and Friday I wondered where all the birds were - just Juncos, Pileateds, Sapsuckers, a Grouse, Ravens of course, and one unidentified warbler. Saturday morning though, the trees were full of a mixture of Purple Finches and Siskins. It was hard to tell them apart in the gray light, but the majority were Purples - if I hadn't heard the Siskins I wouldn't have known they were there. I counted over a hundred in my immediate area, with other flocks in trees more distant. No sign of them by Sunday morning. There were also several R.C. Kinglets - I had my first look at one displaying. Never realized that little red spot could explode! Lots of Chipping and Field sparrows singing. Hairy woodpeckers seemed to outnumber Downies up there. Only owl I heard was a Barred which called a few times Sunday morning. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Fred Pierce (DNRC)- fpierce@avialantic.com Mid-Atlantic Aviation on the Web - http://www.avialantic.com ** Mid Atlantic Air Museum WWII Weekend Airshow June 7-9 2002 and Planes, Trains, & Automobiles Transporation Show Sept. 21-22 2002 - www.maam.org ** *** World Airshow News - www.worldairshownews.com ** --------------------------------------------------------------------- ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
