But the sightings were strictly spring-like. Highlights were: 2 WARBLING VIREOS singing in trees above the picnic area at Fletcher's; this date is about a week earlier than has been usual for this species around here 3 NORTHERN PARULA heard and seen 3 YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER singing and seen 3 COMMON YELLOWTHROAT heard 2 PROTHONOTARY WARBLER heard and seen several N. ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW showing interest in nesting in a plastic drainpipe in the recently rebuilt stone wall just downstream of the lock house (a few BARN around also) 2 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON in the tumbling stream below the canal and behind the concession building Mike Bowen Bethesda, MD D.H.
