On Tuesday evening, Apr. 16th, at 8:15 we heard a Whip-poor-will in the back yard! In 16 years I've never heard one here, so this is a new yard bird for us. My 12 1/2 yr. old son came running to me at the same moment that we both realized it wasn't the clock we were hearing! It was very loud and called for a full 5 minutes. We were so enthralled and it was great for him that he recognized it from our bird clock. He then looked it up in the bird guide and was amazed at what it looked like. Also we had several purple finches at the feeders today. And the first house wren has arrived in our yard.
