I am a quiet lurker on this list, but allow me to chime in as well: I was a guest at Town Hill Inn a number of summers ago and met Jim then. We spoke for a while about the golden eagles that he saw from his vantage point across the street so often, and he gave me an open invitation to come up some November when I felt like it. I did go up just after Thanksgiving about a year later, and he was there. We sat in his car (it was COLD) and watched over the ridge, where I found my life Golden Eagle a short while later. I can't say I really knew him, but I did know that he was a nice guy, willing to share his time, his expertise, entertaining stories and his car, with a relative stranger, just because of a similar interest. It is sad to hear of his passing. -----Original Message----- From: Scott Crabtree [mailto:crabtree@MYSHORELINK.COM] Sent: Wednesday, April 24, 2002 3:04 PM To: MDOSPREY@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM Subject: Re: [MDOSPREY] James F. Paulus - R.I.P. Several years ago, my wife and I took a trip to Town Hill in late October, to see what sort of hawks might be pushing through after frontal passage. Jim Paulus was there, and regaled me for some time about his experiences with the hawk watch, and the county in general. It was a cold day, and he loaned me a down jacket. As I was leaving, he said, "Ah, keep the jacket - I've got plenty of others. Just always wear it at hawk watches!" He was a prince of a guy. He'll be missed.
