Rock Creek Park was full of birders, and fortunately the birds put on a good show, probably the best push of migrants so far this year. My favorites were the Blue-winged Warbler at the ridge and the male Rose- breasted Grosbeak near the stables. I haven't seen any other reports from Rock Creek Park, so I've included birds found or reported by other birders in the list below: Chimney Swift Ruby-throated Hummingbird Yellow-throated Vireo Red-eyed Vireo Ruby-crowned Kinglet Blue-gray Gnatcatcher Wood Thrush Gray Catbird Tennessee Warbler Northern Parula Yellow Warbler Chestnut-sided Warbler Black-throated Green Warbler Palm Warbler Black-and-white Warbler Worm-eating Warbler Ovenbird Common Yellowthroat Hooded Warbler Indigo Bunting Back in the atlas block, I started at Lock 5 along the C&O Canal in Montgomery County, where I found a Prothonotary Warbler, 2 Yellow-throated Warblers, and a Northern Parula. A Common Grackle was gathering nesting material and taking it back to the other side of Canal Rd. In the Chain Bridge area of DC, I was very excited to see that the Red- shouldered Hawk nest had at least 1 downy chick (this is not the Fletcher's Boathouse nest reported yesterday). I also saw a Great Blue Heron, Northern Rough-winged Swallow, and Red-winged Blackbird carrying nesting material -- hopefully something will come of this activity. Other birds seen in the area: Double-crested Cormorant Green Heron Black-crowned Night-heron Black Vulture Turkey Vulture Osprey Caspian Tern Belted Kingfisher Eastern Kingbird Blue-gray Gnatcatcher Warbling Vireo Northern Parula Yellow Warbler Common Yellowthroat Orchard Oriole Baltimore Oriole John Hubbell Chevy Chase, MD ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
