Mostly I was at the River road area, which for some reason I had ignored for years. It was great, both along the river itself and in the scrubby state park area around the big bend to the south. The road is lightly-traveled with many places to pull over. I plan to revisit frequently. I had many firsts-of-the-season: Yellow-breasted Chats with a vengeance (at the scrubby area of River Road, and Powell's Run Road), Indigo Bunting (R - scrubby area), Chestnut-sided Warbler (R), Orchard Oriole (R-scrubby), Rose-breasted Grosbeak (heard only - R), Least Flycatcher (heard only - R), Eastern Wood-Pewee (R). I heard something in the scrubby area of River Road that was possibly a Golden-winged/Blue-winged Warbler hybrid but could not see it even though it circled close all around me for 20 minutes. (It had a persistent, somewhat weak, "bizz-buzz-buzz" song. There was a seen-and-heard Blue-winged Warbler in the same area at the same time.) One of the pleasures of the day is that I got to see, not just hear, most of the 14 species of warbler, which were: Blue-winged Warbler - R Northern Parula Warbler - R, LD Yellow Warbler - Sykesville (heard only) Chestnut-sided Warbler - R Black-throated Blue Warbler - R Yellow-rumped Warbler - R Yellow-throated Warbler - Henryton Rd (heard only) Prairie Warbler -R Black & White Warbler - R Worm-eating Warbler - LD (heard only) Ovenbird - LD (very well seen) Louisiana Waterthrush R, LD Common Yellowthroat - R+ Yellow-breasted Chat - R, Powell's Run Rd ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
