We saw or heard an Eastern Wood-Pewee, 2 Least (heard and seen, i.e. "whit" and short primary projection) and 2 Great Crested Flycatchers. Ruby-crowned Kinglets (10) are still around in numbers that seem high to us. Thrushes are in, with 3 Veery, 2 Swainson's and 3 Wood. We also saw a White-eyed, a Blue-headed (alticola) and 2 Red-eyed Vireos. The warblers were Northern Parula, 2 Yellow, 3 Chestnut-sided, a Magnolia, 2 Black-throated Blue, 8 Yellow-rumped, a Black-throated Green, a Western Palm, a Black-and-white, a Redstart, 4 Ovenbirds, 2 Common Yellowthroats and close looks at a Hooded. The color splash included a Scarlet Tanager, a Rose-breasted Grosbeak, 2 Indigo Buntings, 2 Orchard and 4 Baltimore Orioles. The full leafing-out of the past week insured our not detecting many birds that were not singing. The Nashville Warbler that I saw yesterday in my yard may have been glimpsed briefly, but we're not sure. Also heard yesterday in the yard were Parula, Chestnut-sided, Black-and-white, Ovenbird and Hooded Warblers along with Blue-headed Vireo, Great Crested Flycatcher and Baltimore Oriole. But time constraints limited my birding to a few minutes. Paul O'Brien Rockville, Mont.
