Also seen in this area (just beyond the pond when walking upstream on the towpath) was a Lincoln's Sparrow, another lifer for Laura and a state bird for me. After Riley's Lock, we went to Sycamore Landing, seeking Cerulean Warblers. Fortunately for us, a singing male perched reasonably close and low just a minute or so after we reached milepost 27, Laura's third lifer of the day. First of the year birds included Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Acadian Flycatcher, American Redstart, and Scarlet Tanager. Other warblers seen included many Prothonotary and Louisiana Waterthrush as well as Tennesee, Northern Parula, Yellow, Yellow-rumped, Palm, and Common Yellowthroat. Also seen were Spotted Sandpiper, Great Crested Flycather, Wood Thrush, Indigo Bunting, and White-crowned Sparrow. Two Barred Owls heard calling.
