Just like Leslie Fisher (see her May 1 posting), I too was surprised to see a Pine Siskin at my feeder yesterday (May 5). Not what I think of as a "spring bird"!

In late afternoon we went for a walk at Great Falls and saw a number of Baltimore Orioles. One male was tugging madly at a tangle of monofilament high in a tree, trying unsuccessfully to carry off a piece of it for nesting material.
