Saturday morning. Relatively few new migrants were to be had, but = the highlights were WILSON'S WARBLER, YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT and a very = bright WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW. LESSER YELLOWLEGS abounded at the pond in = the sw corner of the park. I only had a short period to do any birding on Sunday, but I took the = opportunity to check the Rt. 309/Starr Rd ponds. It only revealed a = GREATER YELLOWLEGS, but the field on the south side of the road had = vocalizing HORNED LARK and GRASSHOPPER SPARROW. The Lark was carrying = food. Since neither Ehrlich et al (1988) nor Sibley (2001) mention = ritualized food presentation in mating behavior, this may be a pretty = good sign of confirmed breeding. Habitat was right.
