Wonderful wake-up, inventorying the bird songs outside my window. One of the great pleasures of spring is that euphorious haze soaking up the Wood Thrush flute as the rest of the orchestra tunes up. All present and accounted for and more than one unidentified warbler in the chorus today. No more Whitethroats - saw them packing their suitcases around the 1st and they were noticeably absent from PEA this morning. Debated a bit staying home and trying to figure out who the newcomers were but opted for PEA. In spite of the speed of my trip around the wildlife trail, I managed good looks at Ovenbird, B&W warbler, Yellowthroat, Summer Tanager, several flycatchers which I *still* couldn't identify, and a Ruby-Throated Hummingbird on her nest. Don't think it was the same one Tim saw (the "Rufous-sided" one) since it was near the river but not over any water. The trick will be if I can find it again and maybe photograph it. Saw another H-bird further along. Also had an almost good look at a Yellow-rump which may have been something else - call wasn't right and I thought it had a black throat (maybe a BT Green) but my neck and patience gave out before I could i.d. it. By the sounds and activity I would guess somebody with time who could see would have had a great morning out there. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Fred Pierce (DNRC)- fpierce@avialantic.com Mid-Atlantic Aviation on the Web - http://www.avialantic.com ** Mid Atlantic Air Museum WWII Weekend Airshow June 7-9 2002 and Planes, Trains, & Automobiles Transporation Show Sept. 21-22 2002 - www.maam.org ** *** World Airshow News - www.worldairshownews.com ** --------------------------------------------------------------------- ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
