PG County - 5/8 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Hi All, Got a confirmed SCARLET TANAGER NEST this a.m. ....saw female bringing nesting material to a nest site at least 1/2 complete, ~35' up in a 50' sycamore, about 12' out on a limb. The area I checked today is located on private land (partially forested in fairly recent years) with some mature sycamores, oaks and lots of fallen trees and brush. Lots of patches of open understory. Tough walking except on old logging tracks.....lots of poison ivy. Heard many (saw a few) wood thrushes, ovenbirds, red-eyed vireos. Looks very promising for nesting woodland birds. Spotted a couple of black-throated green warblers chasing each other. Found one other active nest with only a glimpse of a probable female bird, grayish-green, slightly larger than a red-eyed vireo as she flew from the nest located only 8' off the ground in a sapling (easy to re-find next time). I waited around for 20 minutes for her to return.....but alas. This sure is an exciting time of year!
