Jane Coskren and I detected a siskin nest in an ornamental white pine near Deep Creek Lake in Garrett County yesterday morning (9 May). If any of you folks have had siskins regularly at your feeder any siskin nests that might be in your vicinity should be ready to fledge. Nests would most likely be situated in small to medium size ornamental conifers. Keep a sharp eye out for the slightly paler fledglings with their loose fitting feathers, with some luck proud parent siskins may even feed the little guys at your feeder.
