It was really cooking with warblers (14 species) and other good birds. Tony finally saw one of his most coveted life-birds - Veery - with long and good looks at it. He had chased accidental Veeries a number of times in Britain without success. Other good lifers seen by Tony were Rose-breasted Grosbeak, including one good male; Blackburnian Warbler (appeared to be an adult female with a modestly orange throat); Northern Waterthrush, Chestnut-sided Warbler, and Eastern Wood-Pewee. Some other warblers we saw included Magnolia Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Canada Warbler. There were several Blackpoll Warblers heard-only, my first of the year. Elliot saw a Lincoln's Sparrow at Milford Mill but the rest of us couldn't spot it. That was remedied for Tony and Elliot at the Fort McHenry wetlands where they saw a Lincoln's Sparrow that Jim Peters located earlier. Meanwhile I stood watch closer to the fort for the Western Kingbird, which finally showed up. I sent visual signals to Elliot and Tony, who got back in time for some great looks at the bird, which likes the wooden fence and the sycamores at the SW corner of the fort near the seawall. I got some decent photos, digi-scoped through Tony's excellent Leica scope. I'll try to get them on my web page and post a link when the warblers and such give me a breather. Of course, the kingbird was a completely unexpected and delightful life-bird and "twitch" (out-of-area rarity) for Tony. Elliot and I were pretty darn pleased too. Tony has now ticked off something like 152 life-birds since his arrival in the Baltimore area last Friday.
