My problem was that I was looking in my old '50's Peterson, in which the species apparently didn't exist. Seeing your note, I walked into another room, looked in Sibley, and there it was. I was at MPEA this morning (Saturday). Started off with an Indigo Bunting. Warblers included Black-throated Blues (lots heard but I didn't see them), Magnolia, Chestnut-sided, Black & White (second most plentiful - around a dozen), Yellowthroat, and Redstart. One female Rose-Breasted Grosbeak, heard a Cuckoo briefly. Think I saw a Merlin but all I can say is a fast-moving falcon bigger than a Kestral. Other sightings included a pair of Red Foxes and Hans looking for the Summer Tanager. I didn't hear or see the Tanager today but did hear one on my run on the Little Patuxent Parkway loop a bit after 10 am. Shot several photos of a B&W Warbler bathing - hopefully one will be in focus. Also photographed the hummingbird nest I mentioned a couple of days ago. Heard sparrows (remaining Whitethroats) but had to pass on anything that didn't make it easy for me. With such an abundance it seems only right to require the birds to present themselves at eye-level or below, in good sunlight, and to hold still until identified. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Fred Pierce (DNRC)- fpierce@avialantic.com Mid-Atlantic Aviation on the Web - http://www.avialantic.com ** Mid Atlantic Air Museum WWII Weekend Airshow June 7-9 2002 and Planes, Trains, & Automobiles Transporation Show Sept. 21-22 2002 - www.maam.org ** *** World Airshow News - www.worldairshownews.com ** --------------------------------------------------------------------- > -----Original Message----- > From: Maryland Birds & Birding [mailto:MDOSPREY@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM]On > Behalf Of Bonnie Ott > Sent: Friday, May 10, 2002 8:59 PM > To: MDOSPREY@HOME.EASE.LSOFT.COM > Subject: [MDOSPREY] Ho Co (Middle Patuxent) > > > This morning we ventured over the MPEA after reading Hans' > tantalizing post from yesterday.
