I was there looking (unsuccessfully) for the Least Terns that spent the last few summers. Jack Saba tells me they (two birds) returned last Sunday, right on schedule. Let's hope they stay long enough to count for the atlas. The other interesting bird today was a modestly-late RED-breasted Nuthatch in the sunrise assembly. The first half-hour of the day also produced Swainson's Thrush and Veery but only 9 species of warblers, with Blackpoll, Chestnut-sided and Blackburnian (one each) being the only real migrants. Black-throated Blue Warblers were also present this morning (at least 4), but at this location they seem to be decidedly absent from the early morning activity: I rarely hear or see them until an hour or more after I arrive -- after all the activity associated with sunrise is gone and other migrant warblers are difficult to find.
