We birded from 4 am until 10 PM and totaled 121 species (my unofficial count). The highlights for me were: * Several Bobolinks in breeding plumage at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center; * A flyover Little Blue Heron at Schoolhouse Pond; * A Summer Tanager and Worm Eating Warbler at Aquasco Farms, plus many Grasshopper Sparrows; * 3 American Pipits, 1 juvinile Horned Lark, and a pair of Grasshopper Sparrows at Croom Airport; * 3 Black-bellied Plovers at Merkle; * Barred Owls (virtually everywhere); * Calling Whip-poor-Will at Springfield Road; * 2 calling Least Bitterns in the marsh along the driving tour at Merkle * A calling Bobwhite at Aquasco Farms. It was a beautiful but tiring day, seeing lots of great birds and raising some money for the atlas. More recently, Friday night at dusk I had a hunting Common Nighthawk over Crofton Park and today I found a pair of Hooded Warblers and 1 calling Kentucky Warbler in Overbrook Park (Bowie).
