Date: Mon, 13 May 2002 12:24:47 EDT Reply-To: Maryland Birds & Birding Sender: Maryland Birds & Birding From: Paul O'Brien Subject: Upper Watts Branch Park for 5/12 and 13 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sunday morning was quite productive as we saw or heard 14 species of warblers from a single spot: Tennessee, 2 Parula, Yellow, 2 Chestnut-sided, 2 Magnolia, Cape May, 4 Black-throated Blue, 5 Yellow-rumped, Black-throated Green, 3 Blackburnian, 3 Blackpoll, Black-and-white, 4 Redstart and Ovenbird. Other birds of interest were a Least Flycatcher, a Red-breasted Nuthatch, a Swainson's Thrush, a male Scarlet Yanager that was shaded toward orange, a Rose-breasted Grosbeak and an Indigo Bunting. Last night there was a considerable movement judging from the overhead flight notes. Not surprisingly, today (5/13) most of yesterday's birds were gone. A Gray-cheeked Thrush was singing in my back yard and the warbler list was reduced to Parula, Chestnut-sided, 4 Blackpoll, 3 Redstart and a Yellowthroat. The same orange-red Scarlet Tanager was still about as was a Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Paul O'Brien Rockville, Mont.
