We finished with 177 species, good enough for 2nd best in Cape May County. Our team captained by Hal Wierenga, consisted of Lynn Davidson, Tom Feild, Leo Weigant and myself. We started off slowly, tallying only a few birds before 5 a.m., but as the sun rose so did our numbers. Friday morning had produced an excellent spring migration fallout at Cape May and most of the birds were still around on Saturday. Some of our better birds were a Swainson's Warbler that has been in Cape May since the beginning of the month that we all heard while driving by at 25 mph, an American Bittern that descended into Cape May Meadows after sunset, a Canada Warbler that Lynn heard as we drove down a road for Meadowlarks, and our last bird a Black Rail calling around 11:00 p.m. David Farner Audubon Naturalist Society ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
