There have been loads of thrushes in our yard the last = several days so I've been able to do side-by-side vocalization comparisons = with Veery, Gray-cheeked and Swainson's as well as the resident Wood = Thrushes and Robins. But this morning when the reputed Bicknell's sang = right outside our bedroom window, it made me jump out of bed because it = sounded so different. I tried to get a recording, but unfortunately, it = flew into the backyard, out of sight, and stopped vocalizing.=20 This is on the heels of a bird that landed on our bird bath a few days = ago. It had no eye-ring and had warm brown tones to the wings and tail but = heavier speckling on the chest than Veery. The lower mandible was = orange-yellow about 2/3 of the way out with a dark distal tip. No = vocalization to nail it as a Bicknell's. Now, if I could get the sight and the sound together... If you decided it WAS a Bicknell's, please let me know, >since this would be a Comp List bird! Dear Fran & others, Thanks to web site vocalizations offered by Tyler Bell = and others, I have decided that the thrush I heard in my backyard WAS a Bicknell's -- based upon the very 'wiry' nature of the downward spirals. HOWEVER, this is hardly documentary evidence for a bird not previously proven in Calvert County! And therefore should not go on the Comp list. (Thank you for your trust.) So: I suggest that it be noted as a 'possible'. (I may not be able to resist putting it on my yard list, however....)
