This morning paul pisano, ottavio janni, and i were at hains point in DC
from before 7 am to some time after 10. paul saw 5 Black Terns and 15
Common Terns fly up the Potomac; after we joined him we saw 21 or so Common
Terns in the river, both sets normally being on the far side of the river.
Later still 4 Common Terns flew upriver rather close to us. In between, at
about 9 am, ottavio spotted a Tricolored Heron in flight at the mouth of
Washington Channel, which reversed course and headed downriver. we saw
every expected swallow except Purple Martin.

later,
