Then came back through the fields to check the impoundments before returning to Sycamore Landing Rd. Not a bad day. My best bird was a singing Warbling Vireo on the north side of the large impoundment. I haven't recorded this species here for ages. Also had a female Hooded Merganser flying over(they probably nest here every year, but I have only confirmed it once.) Found 5 singing Cerulean Warblers between milepost 27 and Horsepen Branch. Good looks at two of the males). Migrants included Gray-checked Thrush (2), Swainson's Thrush, Black-throated Blue Warbler, and an Osprey flying over. Breeding activity were two families of Canada Geese, couple of chickadee families, a singing Veery in its traditional nesting area along Sycamore Landing Rd, two Downy Woodpecker nests with young and a fledgiling downy being fed by an adult. This is a good time of year to find woodpecker nests because the young are so noisy. BTW If anybody on this list is doing the McKee-Beshers/Hughes Hollow(Sterling quads) for the breeding bird atlas let me know and I'll give you my records from my upcoming breeding surveys.
