This dove invaded virtually all of Europe during the 20th Century from its ancestral range in Asia Minor. Since it was introduced in the Bahamas and invaded Florida in the 1980s, Eur. Collared Dove has expanded most rapidly in North America in the Midwest and the Gulf States. It has taken its time moving up the East Coast but it's only a matter of time before it starts breeding here. The Atlas Project will probably document the expansion of this exotic into Maryland because the project's timeline coincides with the species' appearance in the Mid Atlantic States. So carefully document the ID and take note if the bird is alone or a member of a pair (or more). A few escaped Ringed Turtle-Doves still show up from time to time so ID is not as straightforward as it might seem at first.
