The call came from long grass in the "no-mow" area of the park, extremely close to the Kenilworth-Parkside Recreation Center, where a noisy game of touch football was going on at the same time. I did not attempt to pinpoint the bird, as I was afraid to flush it out into an area with many people. NPS Ranger Briggs over at the Aquatic Gardens right next door says she believes that the bird is a lone male who is trying (so far unsuccessfully) to attract a mate. We can all wish him luck!
