Although we didn't succeed, we had some solace in another bird--a Short-eared Owl in the fading light of dusk. It fluttered in typical mothy fashion over the marsh at about 8:45 PM, perhaps 50 feet from us. We were between the old hunting lodge and the bridge--the area that Claudia Wilds suggested was the best for the rail. If others see this bird, it would be of some interest to the Atlas; so rail-seekers, watch for it! On another topic, Jim Stasz mentioned to us that the Louisiana Waterthrush is now fledging young--he had 8 this morning. Please report any such to your friendly Atlas coordinator.
