During my childhood (further back than I care to contemplate), a number of feeder birds turned up decapitated. My parents eventually saw a Common Grackle in the act. Apparently it was after the brain of its victim and not hungry enough to bother with the rest of the body. Unrelated topic: I wouldn't be surprised if the WeKing at Ft. McHenry turned out to be the same individual that overwintered at Eastern Neck N.W.R., just across the Bay, the last two winters. If so, I wonder where it spent LAST summer; probably not out west where it "belongs". ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
