I was wondering how the challnge is going? For those who missed it, Norm challenged me to do a record-breaking "Big Tick". Dave Perry has the current record of 3322, set last year. The way it works is this, each species in each County counts as a "tick". In theory it is possible to get Tufted Titmouse in all 23 counties, so a maximum of 23 ticks for that species. Norm made the original challenge, but I accepted it on the condition that if I break the record, he pays $0.01 for each tick to the Atlas Project. A few others have also joined and at last count it was up to $0.06 for each tick. No one pays unless I get to 3323, and then at $0.01 per tick, you would give the Atlas Project $33.23. I could use a little added iniative. For me it has been a miserable Spring Migration. Would you believe I still need to get a Swainson's Thrush for my Year List!!! I need a Wood Thrush in Prince George's and a White-breasted Nuthatch in Anne Arundel and a Slate-colored Junco in Kent and a White-throated Sparrow in Garrett. If I knew it was going to be this difficult, I would played it safe and not taken the bait. Good Birding!
