It is not in full breeding plumage, but rather about midway between the breeding and non-breeding plumages illustrated in the 3rd edition of the Natl Geographic Field Guide. Oddly, Sibley does not illustrate the breeding plumage. This bird had full back plumes, and was developing plumes on the head, but no where near what Natl Geo illustrates.
