The kid would pick the stick up in the middle, toss it in the air, and then attempt to catch it on one end. I presumed his/her mom told him to practice tossing fish in the air for three hours a day until he could do it without mistakes. He caught it about half of the time, and when he missed he seemed to look around to see if any of his siblings saw it. When he caught it, you could almost feel his excitement as he shook it around a few times before setting it down to try again.
