From: The Cummins' Casa Subject: Banding of Young Peregrine Falcons Comments: To: WV-BIRD@LIST.AUDUBON.ORG, va-bird@freelists.org Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed At around 10:00 this morning they will be taking the 2 young Peregrine Falcons from the hatch box at the top of the Kodak building to check and band them. If you go to this website below, you might catch the action: http://birdcam.kodak.com/cgi-bin/asCgi.pl?node=10&app=birdcam&laf=playground&instance=6 On a closer note, here is a message from one of the rangers in charge of the peregrine restoration project at Harpers Ferry: Three male peregrines were released this week at the hack site on Maryland Heights. This site is visible from the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers. The falcons are beginning to fly, thus now is a great opportunity to see them in flight. They tend to squawk when they are flying together and playing, this will help some members confirm their observation. More birds are scheduled to be released near the 17th of June, these will have solar power satellite transmitters on them, this will be distinguishable by the antenna on their backs. The antenna and transmitter weigh only 4 grams and make the birds easier to identify. Some falcons could remain around the area from mid to late July. Best observation times to view falcons in flight would occur after June 20th. Should any members observe any falcon attack a bird or other notable activity, please document location, date, time, note if bird had an antenna, and please contact Dale Nisbet at 304-535-6770, or e-mail Dale_nisbet@nps.gov * Note - The hack site area is closed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Diana Cummins Harpers Ferry, WV Potomac Valley Audubon Society montex@intrepid.net ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
