Of course the article only has room to mention a few egregious examples of how what's on screen -- e.g., loon calls in suburbia -- bears no resemblance to ornithological reality. (Remember the recent golf tournament soundtrack scandal?) Personally, it drives me nuts when Turkey Vultures are portrayed as screaming like hawks. Also, many years ago there was some silly Marlo Thomas romantic comedy on TV about birdwatchers. At a supposed birders' get-together in the south (Carolinas?) in spring or early summer, a stereotypically goofy-looking birder pops her head in the door at one point and announces, "It's midnight! Perfect time for Snowy Owls!" AARRGHHHH!!
