While sitting home with a case of "birder's scourge" -read Lyme disease- I sat down to watch my nearly empty feeders. A white-breasted nuthatch appeared. She has been a daily regular and I have been tempted to code her as a fledgling as she is not the usual neat plumage. But wait!! This bird is fluttering its wings in the begging posture I have observed in young of other species. And then the REAL regular feeder bird appeared and got some suet and fed the fluttering one. A confirmation with FL in my field card. Not bad for being stuck at home with barely enough energy to walk to the window and look out! So glad there was some suet left in the feeder. Catbirds were very regular at suet, but now are hawking insects. Will watch carefully for fledglings there also as I have not been able to spot where they go in the vines and poison ivy in lot next door. A robin fledgling is outside the kitchen window, but not the one from the nearby nest, as it is still in the nest. And a female hummingbird was coming for sugar water regularly yesterday and today. First I have seen her since safe dates. Good birding!
