We arrived at about 8:30 am and soon located the loon, a bit distant, from the dam. We then drove around to teh Bobwhite picnic area, where (walking down to the lake) we had good scope views of the loon, which was actively feeding and diving. Later it went through a session of preening, allowing us to examine its plumage for charactistic Pacific Loon features. As it moved away, we relocated to the boat center where we had even better views of the bird close offshore. The first-summer Common Loon was also present, giving a nice comparison. We left at about 9:30 and the bird was still off the boat center.
