The gentleman was a carver who had just finished carving a loon apparently with it's head back and mouth open while vocalizing. His question was..."What is the color on the inside of a loon's mouth?" Wow, what a question. He wanted to get it correct. We couldn't find any good pictures in any of our field guides that show a loon in that posture that had any detail. Having no idea off the top of my head for a reference, I suggested he contact the Ward Museum in Salisbury, MD. He knew about the Ward Museum but hadn't thought to contact them. My question is... does anyone know a good website or reference source that might provide that kind of detailed information.
