Only one of two nests made it through the spring. I was able to see two young in the nest moving around - stretching their wings and poking at nesting material with their bills. Also present - a single adult standing watch nearby. Note that this nest is over what is essentially an upland stream, high up in a hardwood (species? not sure, but surrounded by oaks). The nearest wetland along Sligo Creek is at least a mile and a half away (along the Parkway near where it crosses under the Beltway). Similar to the nesting venue mentioned in Rick Vaeth's message.
