My = comment on many nighthawks soaring over the Capitol, above reporters and = camera operators scurrying underneath in pursuit of Congressman Condit, = was interpreted to mean that camera lights were attracting the birds. = In fact they couldn't have been more oblivious. The powerful lights = that illumine the Capitol during a late night session provide an = incredible feast of insects.=20 It was the contrast between the frantic activity on the ground and the = smooth graceful interweaving of so many newly arrived nighthawks that = amused me. BTW, a kestrel is currently enjoying the house finches at the Capitol = (6/18, 17:40).
