A Screech Owl = responded to some whistling at 8AM. Two mulberry trees loaded with = berries were attracting a host of birds and good for a half dozen = confirms. In a block near New Windsor the sewage ponds had two families of = youg Wood Ducks. A Cooper's Hawk cruising over was, unfortunately, not = new for the block. On Sunday I was working in a block on the Allegany/Washington = border. With many young out and adults carrying food in all directions = confirms were easy to come by. Beside the Potomac River a Wild Turkey = was sitting in a tree with 5 large partly downy young. I saw my first = Broad-winged Hawk of the season. Sightings of both cuckoo species were = also new for this block. A family group of Worm-eating Warblers was = next to the towpath. Later I bumped into a family group of 4 Ravens. I = found an Indigo Bunting nest with one young each of bunting and cowbird. = I added 13 new confirms in the block for the day. This is an = interesting block. House Sparrows and Starlings are restricted to one = area near the edge of the block. I have only one sighting of Catbird so = far.
