She said she had birds nesting on her porch and I wanted to = check it out. It turned out to be Barn Swallow nesting on a ledge on a = pillar holding up the roof of the porch. On Sunday a Sharp-shinned Hawk sailed through the woods of the block = I was atlasing in Washington County. Sharp-shins are very rare breeders = east of Garrett County. Also on Saturday I saw a Goldfinch carrying nesting material. Is = this the beginning of the end for this season? Not really. The next = three weekends will abound with fledged young and adults carrying food = for young. This may be the best time to confirm many of the less common = species in your atlas block.
