Both of them, really fabulous! And yes, it is a young Yellow-crowned Night-Heron. Absolutely wonderful photos, thanks for sending them along. Now, if you can get out to Black Hill Regional Park, there is a rather rare bird there, located on Saturday morning. It's a juvenile White Ibis, a large wading bird which breeds as far north as SE coastal VA. It's been seen at the boat ramp area, down in the shallow section of the lake, where there are lots of tree stumps, and behind a beaver lodge, feeding along the shallow muddy margins. A good photo of this bird would be a nice addition to the MD Ornithological Society web-site. I got a few digi-scope shots of it Saturday, but nothing of the quality like you take! I passed these photos along to Mike Moffatt, my friend who was with me the day we met.
