With the continuing drought, the area was very dry. I = wore rubber boots but sneakers would have been fine. As Bob Ringler = states, there is still plenty of atlasing that we can do. My highlight = for the day were FY Red-bellied Woodpecker (house), Common Yellowthroat, = and Indigo Bunting. =20 Other birds of note were: A flyover Green Heron in molt (adult) Red-tail Hawk Red-shouldered Hawk Mourning Dove - pair Yellow-billed Cuckoo -calling Ruby-throated Hummingbird - male/female (house) Downy Woodpecker Hairy Woodpecker (house) Eastern Wood Peewee - three singing males Acadian Flycatcher - more singing males Eastern Phoebe - at least four birds White-eyed Vireo - singing Red-eyed Vireo - pair Blue Jay American and Fish Crow - a flock mobbing a Red-shouldered Hawk Barn Swallow - a post atlas safe date bird Tufted Titmouse - several singing birds Carolina Chickadee Carolina Wren - a pair on territory. The young fledged from the nest at = the neighbors front door last week and were begging today. Eastern Bluebird - male singing. Wood Thrush - singing in the woods Northern Parula - singing Scarlet Tanager - singing Eastern Towhee - calling and singing Song Sparrow - several singing Red-winged Blackbird - pair scolding and leading me away from their = area. Is it too late for them to still be nesting? American Goldfinch - flying overhead. One other bird of note was a single Solitary Sandpiper. Perhaps an = early returning breeder from up north. Butterflies confirmed that I remember were: Tiger Swallowtail Cabbage White Red-banded Hairstreak Monarch Viceroy Great Spangled Fritillary Pearl Crescent Summer (now) Azure Wood Nymph Least Skipper I also added a new dragonfly to the yard list. About 2 PM while heading = out to get the mail, I saw a Comet Darner fly around the house. This = bright red animal was the highlight for my day. Enjoy nature and the rain.
