Hearing them one morning, she called the exterminator and insisted he come by to spray the entire house. He came, but could find no evidence of crickets or any other critters. While she was insisting crickets were overrunning her home, one obligingly started chirping and she exclaimed, "Aha! There it is!". Turned out it was the smoke alarm 'chirping' for new batteries, which the exterminator very nicely replaced for Mom. I'm sure the whole episode made his day and Mom still laughs over the story.
