Yesterday afternoon a Great Egret was hanging out, feeding along the edge all afternoon in spite of my barking Yellow Lab. When I logged it in to AVISYS, I found that past sightings of this bird on the property include July 23, 1990, July 24, 2000 and now July 27. Pretty neat! Other sightings for the egret were all in September (3rd, 13th and 14th for different years). This morning the only bird of note was a young empidonax flycatcher flitting around between the big wild cherry tree and the small ones. The cherries are ripe and the trees are full of feasting birds: catbirds, mockers, bluebirds, Chipping Sparrows, House Finches, and robins. House Wren and Carolina Wren are around also, and the hummingbird feeder is getting lots of activity now, with at least 3 (probably way more) different birds.
