During the past week a few more fledglings have been found for the Atlas here in my block - in Talbot County - Young Yellow-billed Cuckoo this morning, with parents, Young Cedar Waxwings yesterday and today, with the adults that have been around here most of the summer, Young Kingbird - finally showing up with the parents that have been here morning and evening for most of the past month. On the grounds of Pickering Creek Audubon Center on Saturday, I found young Wood Pewee, a very wimpy flying young Grasshopper Sparrow, and two juvenile Meadowlarks with their parents. Also, the power lines between the farm buildings held 14 Bank Swallows, 8 Purple Martins, and a few of the numerous Barn Swallows that call those grounds their summer home. (But rejoice in all the great birds in Maryland all year around; during our 2-week visit in Sweden this month, only 66 species found, though admittedly our visit focus was not mainly on the birds.)
