Hello,

I hadn't birded Bywater Road for some time. It's close by.my work and I
have seen and photographed many life birds in the last seven years I have
been birding. From Bobolinks, Eastern Meadowlarks, and American Woodcocks
to the Lark Sparrow, the Orange-crowned Warbler, and the Connecticut
Warblers, I have spend a lot of time there. It's like family. As you may
know, it's slated for development. It's been on the brink before, but
nothing had been done. I was told by the city that all the paperwork had
been done by spring. Today I noticed that there was white tape tied off in
the area
and the development may be soon.

The area still bounds with song and field sparrows, mockingbirds by the
dozens. I
saw one Brown Thrasher and only one Yellow-breasted Chat in my short visit.
But
for the first time there, I had a Bobwhite's repeated call. How ironic.
The call seems
so naive, so upbeat. This amid yet another habitat upheaval. I think I
will miss the
Chats the most, though.

On another habitat that's changing for the better, the Westinghouse Pond is
very low
and is hosting 30-40 shorebirds. Among the guests are least, semipalmated,
and
spotted sandpipers, two Snowy Egrets, one Greater Yellowlegs, and at least
three
Semipalmated Plover. The Great Egrets, Great Blue Herons, Double -crested
Cormorants, Wood ducks, American Black Ducks have been there all summer.
