But it was dead low tide and there's an awful lot of mud that the bird could have chosen. I visited KAG, adjacent Kenilworth Park (the part along the Anacostia River), and Kenilworth Marsh (the portion adjacent to the Langston Golf Course upstream of the Benning Rd. bridge). This was between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM this afternoon, Tuesday, August 6. I then bolted for home before the famous DC traffic started to congeal. What I did see in these places: 4 GREAT BLUE HERON 6 GREAT EGRET 12 KILLDEER 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS several BARN SWALLOW 2 EASTERN KINGBIRD 1 AMERICAN KESTREL (a female on a goalpost in KP) and the usual collection of Canada Geese and Mallards. Along the Anacostia River in Anacostia Park there was a large collection of gulls on the loafing area nearest to the Anacostia Skating Pavilion. These were 60% Laughing Gulls and 40% Ring-billed, with a couple of juveniles of both species. Along with them was a single 1st or 2nd year Forster's Tern just molting into basic plumage.
