Nancy and I also did a little incidental work in other places we visited. We have certainly hit diminishing returns for atlasing, and succeeding weeks will continue to restrict atlas options, but we did better than I had expected. Of 106 species for the weekend 42 were still within safe dates, we also manged to confirm nesting by an additional 8 species beyond their listed safe dates. Our overall total of confirmed species for the weekend was 23 ranging from the expected goldfinch to the more surprising Prothontary Warbler (a few still feeding fledglings along the Pocomoke). We had 31 species in Berlin SW on Saturday with 11 confirmations, and 31 species and 12 confirmations in Berlin NE this Monday. We also had many other "unsafe" species in the blocks, it's hard seeing so many Canada Geese and Common Grackles and not be able to "count" them for the atlas. If you can stand the heat for a few morning hours there are still a few confirmations to be had, this is likely to be the last decent atlas week for most birds.
