Two evenings ago, there was a female Cardinal in a bad way -- feathers
fluffed, eyes shut -- sitting near our little pond, and later that night I
had to fish out her corpse. Maybe it was a case of West Nile Virus...? We
all remember seeing sick House Finches a few years ago, but this is much
scarier. We should also worry about the migrants that will be passing
through soon.

What kind of inoculation are some zoo birds receiving? (See Maryanne Dolan's
posting.) I didn't know there was any way to protect against infection by
West Nile. I no longer take my parrot outside because of the quantity and
quickness of the mosquitoes this summer.
