While there we pulled out the binoculars and birded a few minutes, some in the river, some in the woods. Here's what we saw or heard along the path and in the river: bald eagle (2 adults and maybe a 3rd headed towards Harpers Ferry up-river) double crested cormorant Canada goose kingfisher wood duck (a female and an immature) n. cardinal Carolina wren Carolina chickadee American crow fish crow hummingbird bird (probably r t) black vulture (two landed on a dead tree branch which immediately broke and landed in the back water scaring us all!) We also saw dozens of turtles, monarch butterflies and at least three other species of butterflies. It seemed strange not to see or hear a tufted titmouse or mallards.
